The Politics of Teaching International Relations in the Arab World
NOTE: This event was in Arabic. If you are interested in an English version, please check this podcast with some of the authors.
How do we teach International Relations (IR) in the Arab world and can we say that it follows a Western / American model? Are there unique circumstances, contexts or approaches that defines and shapes our study of political science and its sub-disciplines in the region?
This webinar addressed these questions and more through an exploration of what and how scholars at Arab universities are teaching IR and how institutional, historical, and linguistic as well as political and individual factors shape the teaching and learning dynamics of political science in the Arab world. The conversation stemmed from numerous previous events on the topic and most recently a published special forum with the same title.
In collaboration with Al-Fanar Media, APSN organized a webinar with scholars from Morocco, Egypt, Lebanon, and the UK, to shed light on the diversity in pedagogical strategies and theoretical perspectives on IR. As well as provide a window into contexts of teaching IR not just across the region but also within certain States and their different educational institutions.
